What fencing costs in Boulder
Rough price calculator
A ballpark only. Your contractor's quote is what counts.
Rough ranges for guidance, not quotes. Your price depends on size, access, materials and season.
Good to know in Boulder
Boulder sees strong chinook winds, spring hail and quick swings between warm days and freezing nights.
The City of Boulder caps fences at 7 feet, and fences up to 7 feet don't need a building permit unless the property is in a floodplain, wetland or historic district.
Fences can't block the sight triangle at corners or driveways, must sit inside your property line and at least 18 inches from a public sidewalk, and a fence right on the line needs a notarized agreement with your neighbour.
Questions, answered.
Do I need to know exactly where my property line is?
It helps a lot. If you're not sure, a survey or your plat map avoids building on a neighbour's land. Many contractors can advise on this.
Which lasts longest?
Vinyl and metal need the least upkeep. Wood costs less up front but needs staining or sealing every few years.
Do I have to call before digging?
Yes. Call 811 a few days before any digging so buried utility lines get marked. It's free, and most contractors do it for you.
Who are you?
